If I am picking up a patient or visitor from MGH, where will they be waiting for me?
Patients and visitors can be picked up from the Wang Lobby via the Wang Loop, located off of Parkman Street, Monday - Friday, 6am - 8pm. All other times, including add day Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, patients and visitors can be picked up from the Main Lobby.

If I need to park my car when coming to MGH to visit or pick up a patient, which parking garage should I park in?
When visiting or picking up a patient Monday - Friday, parking in the Fruit Street and Parkman Garages is recommended. Both garages allow visitors to park for free up to 25 minutes. If the patient you are picking up is visiting MGH's Yawkey Outpatient Center, please park in the Yawkey Garage. It can be accessed directly from Cambridge Street or via Fruit Street.

I use transportation services that can accommodate wheelchairs such as "The Ride". Where will these vehicles drop me off and pick me up?
All chair cars will drop off and pick up patients from the Wang Lobby for all visits to the MGH except when the patient's destination is the Yawkey Building. Patients with appointments in the Yawkey Building will be dropped off and picked up from the Yawkey Building entrance.

If I require wheelchair assistance, will one be available to me when I arrive?
Yes. MGH staff and volunteers will be available to assist individuals requiring a wheelchair at the White, Yawkey, Cox, and Wang entrances.

Does MGH have a valet parking service?
Yes. Valet parking service is offered at two locations. One location is at the Wang entrance (Monday - Friday, 6a - 9p) and second is at the front door of the Yawkey Building (Monday - Friday, 8a - 6p), which can be accessed from Fruit Street.

If I would like to use a taxi service from MGH, where can I access one?
MGH has a taxi stand located on North Grove Street at Parkman Street. MGH Information Desk Associates are also available to call a taxi for your convenience.

   
  General Questions and Answers

Where will this new building, Building for the New Century (B3C), be built?
The B3C will be built where the Clinics, Tilton and Vincent Burnham Kennedy Buildings currently stand. Demolition of these buildings will begin in late summer/early fall 2007.

What types of services will the B3C have?
The B3C will be a high technology building. While enhancing select outpatient services, the new building will:

Be home to five new floors of single inpatient rooms. The services will include Neuroscience Acute Care, Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and Medical Oncology.

Add twenty-nine new operating rooms. This quantity represents an incremental increase of 19, after taking 10 operating rooms out of service.
-
Include a new Sterile Processing Department (SPD) that will service not only the new operating rooms, but also the 52 operating rooms on the rest of the hospital campus.
-
Relocate a portion of the Radiation Department's services, as well as expand its treatment capabilties.
-
Relocate the Shipping and Receiving Division of Materials Management.
-
Expand services in the Emergency Department.

When will this new building open?
The B3C is scheduled to open in 2011, with full occupancy by 2012.

If the Vincent Burnham Kennedy Building is coming down and the Emergency Department (ED) is being relocated, will patients and staff be able to use the ED during construction?
Yes. The entrance to the ED for both ambulances and pedestrians will be moved. There is no need to worry, because individuals will be able to receive care at the Emergency Room throughout construction.

Parking at the MGH is so limited. Will there be added parking spaces with this new building?
There will be no new parking associated with the new building.

How will construction affect me while I am at the MGH?
The goal during construction is to minimize disruption to MGH patients and staff.  Departments and offices located in the Clinics, Vincent Burnham Kennedy and Tilton Buildings will be relocated to various areas within the hospital. Throughout construction there will be extra signage and volunteers helping to direct and alert people of the changes.
