South Africa Partners AIDS Research Center has maintained an active involvement and presence in South Africa since the early 1990s. The center is committed not only to providing scientific expertise to a country devastated by AIDS, but is also committed to provide HIV education and support to persons infected and affected with HIV/AIDS. PARC staff member Krista Dong, MD has been living in Durban, South Africa since October of 2001, and during that time has been actively involved in the community. Originally, she worked closely with the St. Mary's Marianhill Hospital staff and currently works with the Edendale Hospital staff and community. She is active with youth and consumer groups across the Kwazulu Natal Province. Trainings in conjunction with the South African Treatment Campaign have been conducted in a variety of townships in Kwazulu Natal. Additional PARC personnel travel frequently to South Africa and participate in training and education, in addition to research. You can read more about Dr. Dong's experiences in South Africa in The iTEACH Newsletter. New information on the program and its progress can be found in these iTEACH posters: |
