Mock Oral Examinations
The mock oral examination replicates the oral examination format that all graduates must take to complete their American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) board certification. Massachusetts General Hospital has five active oral board examiners who administer practice exams to all residents during their clinical training. This experience serves to familiarize residents with the structure and format of the oral exam process.
In addition, the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Mass General hosts a more formal mock oral examination session each year on a Saturday morning in March. This session gives rising residency graduates and fellows an opportunity to practice with board examiner officials, who will present questions in a format similar to the oral board exam and later provide them feedback and strategies for success. Residents and fellows have found this session invaluable in helping them prepare for the exam, as it closely simulates the real exam.
The 2015 Mass General Mock Oral Examination will be held on January 31, 2015 from 7:30 am to 11:30 am on the
Mass General main campus. John Ryan, MD, a former oral board examiner, will oversee the examination process.
Registration for the 2015 Mock Oral Examination is closed.
