GENERAL INFORMATION

The Colorectal Program treats the full range of colorectal problems, including diverticular disease, anorectal and colorectal conditions, motility and continence disorders, and colorectal cancer. We value and respect our relationships with referring physicians. After referral and initiation of therapy, we collaborate with you on long-term care plans so that, if desired, follow-up services can be provided by you or your local hospital.

Within Partners, you can utilize MGH Appointment Request Online system to request an appointment (internal link only).

LEADERSHIP IN COLORECTAL CARE

Our physicians and surgeons are nationally recognized leaders in colorectal care and research. We perform more colorectal surgery and laparoscopic colon surgery than any other center in New England. We are a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of both primary motility and continence disorders and rectal/bowel problems that arise following surgery. We are the only center in the Eastern United States currently offering colonic manometry, a tool to evaluate the need for partial or total colectomy.

COMPREHENSIVE MANAGEMENT OF COLORECTAL DISEASE

Through our Advanced Endoscopy Service, we have unmatched capability in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including colonoscopy, polypectomy, endoscopic ultrasound, colonic stenting, and chromoendoscopy. The Colorectal Program has the most extensive experience in New England in treating colorectal cancers. Our specialists have particular expertise with:

  • Sphincter-sparing procedures for rectal cancers, including transanal excision and microsurgery
  • Total mesorectal excision
  • Laparoscopic colectomy
  • Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for colorectal cancers
  • Intraperitoneal chemotherapy for rectal pseudomonas and other malignant masses
