Dr. Thomas Dodson presented "Evidence-based management of third molars -- Reaping the rewards of research" at oral and maxillofacial surgery grand rounds at the University of California-San Francisco. The presentation updates a body of work funded in part by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation's REAP program (Research and Education Advance Patient care) designed to demonstrate to oral surgeons the relationship between ongoing scientific research and improving clinical practice. The 2009 fiscal year represents the 50th anniversary of the OMS Foundation, the only organization dedicated exclusively to the support of OMS research and education. Dr. Dodson is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS) Task Force on Evidence-based Third Molar Data. His work on third molars uses science to optimize third molar management and to prevent the risk of adverse outcomes from extraction.
