Joan Miller, MD, chief of the Ophthalmology Service at the MGH and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, has been awarded the 2010 Joseph B. Martin Dean's Leadership Award for the Advancement of Women Faculty. The award, named after former Harvard Medical School (HMS) Dean Joseph B. Martin, MD, PhD, honors HMS faculty members committed to the recruitment, retention and advancement of women faculty at HMS.
The MGH recently was named to DiversityInc's list of Top Five Hospital Systems. DiversityInc is an online and print publication about diversity and business. The Top Five Hospital Systems list recognizes hospital systems that support a diverse workforce.
The Electronic Medication Administration Process for Patient Safety (EMAPPS) team at the MGH was recognized with the Pharmacy Health System Award from the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists during the society's annual dinner on May 27. Margaret Clapp, MS, MDiv, RPh, chief pharmacy officer, and Robert Hallisey, MS, PharmD, clinical specialist for MGH Pharmacy, accepted the award on behalf of the EMAPPS team.
Lisa Kachnic, MD, of the Department of Radiation Oncology, has been elected a trustee of the American Board of Radiology. Trustees provide four years of service and are nominated by two sponsoring radiological societies.
Howard Weinstein, MD, chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, was recognized by John Hancock Financial as the company's top fundraiser for the Boston Marathon. John Hancock Financial donates individual entry bibs to local nonprofits, including the MGH. Weinstein, who leads the MGH Marathon Team, "Fighting Kids Cancer One Step at a Time," ran the marathon for the 20th time this year and raised more than $80,000 in support of MassGeneral Hospital for Children's pediatric cancer program.
