MGH and Partners go to bat at Field of Dreams

winning spirit: The Partners HealthCare team won their game Aug. 31.

Fenway Park was filled with professional talent Aug. 31 – but more of the clinical and administrative than the professionally athletic variety. Several enthusiastic MGH physicians, nurses, caregivers and administrators took to the historic diamond to join the Partners HealthCare softball team for the 13th annual Field of Dreams softball event. The fundraiser benefits Action for Boston Community Development's (ABCD) SummerWorks program, which provides low-income, at-risk teenagers with jobs, education, mentoring and tutoring throughout the summer.

The Partners team played against a combined team from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the law firm of Travaglini, Eisenberg and Kiley. Despite the intense heat and humidity, the event was enjoyed by all.

"This has to be the best game I ever played in, not just because it happened to be at Fenway but because of the great teammates and the degree of fun that everyone was having," said Rafael Caban, of MGH Information Desks. "If I could choose one highlight from the whole day, it would be the smiles on everyone's faces and the level of excitement that each participant exhibited."

Laura Wysk, of MGH Finance, shared in the enthusiasm, "This was the best Tuesday morning of my life! I was happy to participate in an event for ABCD, especially at Fenway."

In the end, the Partners team prevailed over their opponents and won the game. This year's Field of Dreams softball series raised $196,000 for the SummerWorks program.
