Songfest singers bring holiday cheer

Joyful singing: Carolers in the White Lobby

Cheerful voices filled the halls of the White Lobby during the MGH Chaplaincy’s annual holiday songfest Dec. 16. Accompanied by pianist Stephen Lee, the music director of St. John’s Parish in Winthrop, the carolers – MGH employees and volunteers – sang a range of seasonal songs. Many of the participants donned holiday-themed accessories and clothing for the occasion. Patients, visitors and other employees stopped to listen and sing along.

“I originally wandered over just to listen, but then they handed me a songbook,” says Darlene Jones, administrative coordinator in the MGH Cancer Center. “I love music, and the songs really help brighten the day.”

“The songfest is a wonderful and fun tradition for all,” adds Michael McElhinny, MDiv, director of the MGH Chaplaincy. “It’s one of the many activities and services the Chaplaincy offers to help MGHers celebrate the season, whatever their faith may be.”
