7News-Partners HealthCare Health and Fitness Expo returns
Exponential information: MGH nutritionists at last year's event provided information on health eating, body mass index calculations and personalized caloric intake assessments
For the fifth year, the MGH will participate in the 7News-Partners HealthCare Health and Fitness Expo June 25 and 26 at the Hynes Convention Center. Thousands of attendees with questions about their health and an interest in improving their fitness are expected to attend the free event, where experienced Partners health professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. A variety of activities and giveaways are planned to provide an engaging and informative day for the whole family.
The MGH booth will include information on healthy eating and simple, easy-to-follow lifestyle changes aimed at improving health. MGH nutritionists will be available for one-on-one nutrition screenings, including body mass index calculations and personalized caloric intake assessments, and MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) Food Allergy Center staff will provide information about food allergies.
At the MGHfC booth, youngsters will be encouraged to lead more active lifestyles through the National Football League "Play 60" Health and Fitness Campaign. As part of the campaign, New England Patriots alumni players, cheerleaders and the "Pat the Patriot" mascot will lead fun exercise drills and other activities with fitness instructors.
Several MGH and MGHfC caregivers will make presentations on topics ranging from improving brain health to identifying risk factors for obesity in children and heart disease in adults. The Expo will once again feature the popular "Ask a Doctor" booth, where attendees can meet with specialists from across Partners, including 15 from the MGH, for advice and answers to health questions. The event will be topped off by celebrity appearances, cooking demonstrations and health screenings, all aimed at improving the health of the Boston community. Last year, approximately 65,000 people attended the Expo.
