HUNDREDS OF MGH STAFF MEMBERS attended the Ambulatory Joint Commission Educational Fair April 6 in preparation for the unannounced five-day survey visit expected any time between now and August. Hosted by the Practice Support Department, the event in the Thier Conference Room included representatives from 14 MGH departments – including Pharmacy, Materials Management, Infection Control, Pathology, Human Resources and Interpreter Services – who shared information about ways to ensure compliance.
“The first time we hosted this fair was in 2009 prior to that year’s Joint Commission visit, and it was very successful,” says Stacey Houghton, director of the MGH/MGPO Practice Support Department. “This year each of the departments sent subject matter experts who fielded questions from staff and provided an overview of Joint Commission standards.”
Staff picked up teaching materials and training packets from each of the tables to educate themselves and their colleagues in a fun, festive environment, which included raffles, freebies and food.
