Medical Service Challenge begins May 1
The MGH Blood Donor Center will host its eighth annual Medical Service Challenge during the month of May. MGH physicians, nurses and administrative staff will compete against one another in the month-long challenge in an effort to increase blood donations during spring, a time when donation rates are typically low. As an added incentive, challenge participants who donate on May 1 will be entered into a raffle to win Red Sox tickets for the May 2 game. Other weekly prizes include restaurant gift certificates, movie passes and tickets to sporting events. At right, clinical trainer George Chappell draws blood from MGH President Peter L. Slavin, MD, during a recent visit. The framed bowtie hanging on the wall in the donor room honors the late Allan Moore, MD, the MGH physician who founded the annual challenge in 2005. Moore, who was dedicated to educating health care professionals about the importance of donating blood, died in 2008. To participate in the Medical Service Challenge, contact Kim Cronin at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 617-726-8165.
