Bruce Chabner, MD, director of Clinical Research for the MGH Cancer Center, was the recipient of an honorary Doctorate of Medical Sciences from the Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The award recognizes his contributions to cancer research and cancer drug development. During the July 3 ceremony, Patrick Johnston, dean of the Queen’s School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences – who also was a fellow with Chabner at the National Cancer Institute – said, “One of the major features of Dr. Chabner’s career has been his focus on the improvement of treatments for patients. His work has led to significant advances in patient treatment and improvements in the quality of care during both his time at the National Cancer Institute and, more recently, at Harvard Medical School and the MGH.
