More than 250 MGHers gathered on the Charles River Esplanade on Sept. 15 to participate in the 2012 American Heart Association (AHA) Boston Heart Walk. About 20 teams from the newly formed Mass General Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke Care joined a crowd of more than 10,000 participants in one-, two- and six-mile courses. The MGH teams raised nearly $37,000 to help the AHA promote physical activity and fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke in the Greater Boston area. Donations are still being accepted.
Kathleen Gallen, RN, BSN, nurse manager for Outpatient Access for the Institute, says this year’s walk was extra special. “This was the first year we were able to come together as the Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke care and walk for such a great cause. I am thrilled we had so many enthusiastic staff members contribute to the success of the walk.”
