The MGH will host a number of fun and festive holiday celebrations for staff, visitors and families in the coming weeks.
All month: All presenting blood donors at the MGH Blood Donor Center can brighten the day of a sick child by filling out a gift tag that will be attached to a stuffed animal and delivered to a MassGeneral Hospital for Children patient by Santa and his elves.
Dec. 8-16: A lighting of the menorah will take place in the MGH Chapel foyer early on each evening of Chanukah.
Dec. 8: Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary will take place at
11 am in the MGH Chapel.
Dec. 8: The MGH General Store will host its annual holiday sale from 6:30 to 9 pm. Merchandise is 20 percent off, and preferred customer card holders receive an additional 10 percent discount. The sale will also be held from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm on Dec. 13 and from 10 pm to 12:30 am on Dec. 17.
Dec. 9: The lighting of the advent wreath will take place in the MGH Chapel foyer on each Sunday morning
leading up to Christmas.
Dec. 11: The MGH Community Chanukah Celebration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the
Thier Conference Room, with candlelighting, food and entertainment.
Dec. 13: Holiday Songfest will take place from noon to 1 pm in the Main Lobby near the staircase by the Maxwell & Eleanor Blum Patient and Family Learning Center. All are invited to join in this annual singing event.
Dec. 17: From Dec. 17-21, Dec. 26-28 and Dec. 31, all platelet donors at the MGH Blood Donor Center will receive two AMC movie tickets. And, on Dec. 27, all blood donors will receive two movie tickets.
Dec. 17: MGH Holiday Reception will be hosted by
President Peter L. Slavin, MD, from 2 to 3:30 pm in the East Garden Room and from 10 to 11:30 pm in the Main Lobby, with music and refreshments.
Dec. 17: Andrew L. Warshaw, MD, MGH surgeon-in-chief emeritus, will present a lecture about the tradition of caring for Santa Claus at the MGH. This humorous look at the various “ailments” Santa suffers annually will be presented at noon at the Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation. A special holiday exhibit also will be on display.
Dec. 18: MGH Holiday Reception will be hosted by President Peter L. Slavin, MD, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Charlestown Navy Yard Building 149, first floor, middle foyer, with music and refreshments.
Dec. 25: Christian Service with Holy Communion will be held at 12:15 pm and Roman Catholic Mass at 4 pm in the MGH Chapel.
Jan. 1: Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, will be held at 4 pm in the MGH Chapel.
