U.S. troops have come home from Iraq, and the war in Afghanistan is winding down. Now, more than ever, is the time to remember and support returning veterans and their families, especially those who are affected by the “invisible wounds of war” – post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. One way to help is by joining the 2013 Run-Walk to Home Base presented by New Balance on May 4.
Now in its fourth year, the Run-Walk to Home Base raises funds for the Red Sox Foundation and MGH Home Base Program, which serves Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families through clinical care, community education and research. The event starts and ends in historic Fenway Park with all runners and walkers crossing home plate at the finish line. About 3,000 runners are expected to participate in the 9K run or three-mile walk, including 500 active duty military.
MGH employees, friends and family can choose to participate as part of the “MGH for Heroes Team.” Registration and event information is available at www.runtohomebase.org. Pre-registration and a minimum fundraising commitment are required. For more information about Home Base, visit www.homebaseprogram.org.
