Benefits Open Enrollment opened Nov. 4 and will remain in effect through Nov. 26. Open Enrollment is the only time of the year when MGH and MGPO employees can enroll in or change their benefits, unless they experience a qualified life event. Changes made via PeopleSoft eBenefits will take effect Jan. 1, 2014.
The MGH is committed to offering employees and their families the best benefits at the lowest possible cost. For this reason, there will be no premium or co-pay increases for health, dental and vision benefits in 2014.
Changes for 2014
Weekly rates: If you are a weekly paid employee, your benefits plan contributions will be spread across 53 paychecks in 2014, instead of the usual 52.
Out-of-pocket maximum changes: The out-of-pocket maximums for Partners Plus and HMO coverage will be capped at $2,500 individual/$5,000 family ($3,000/$6,000, if you enroll in Partners Value). This cap limits your out-of-pocket expenses for co-pays and co-insurances. The $5,000 limit on Durable Medical Equipment also has been eliminated.
Same-sex spouse coverage: All married couples now receive the same tax treatment and can receive reimbursement from their 2014 Flexible Spending Accounts for their spouse’s and spouse’s dependents’ eligible expenses. This reflects the U.S. Supreme Court’s June ruling to strike down parts of the Defense of Marriage act.
Same-Sex Domestic Partner benefits coverage: After Jan. 1, 2014, employees will no longer be allowed to add a same-sex domestic partner to their benefits coverage. Same-sex domestic partners enrolled by Jan. 1, 2014 will be “grandfathered” and continue to receive coverage.
Summaries of Benefits Coverage: Per the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, the Benefits Office is posting easy-to-understand 2014 summaries of our medical plans on the MGH Benefits intranet site.
Don’t forget your Flexible Spending Account (FSA): If you have a 2013 health or dependent care FSA and want to have one again in 2014, you must enroll via eBenefits by Nov. 26. FSA participation requires an annual election.
