The MGH is in the process of redesigning how it delivers world-class care to improve the health of its patients while also enhancing affordability of care by implementing a new enterprise medical record system. Called Partners eCare, this clinical and administrative system supports all aspects of the MGH mission, including research, education, patient care and community-based outreach.
The MGH is one of the first hospitals in the Partners network to begin using Partners eCare and the hospital will launch the new system in two phases. The first phase – expected to go live on July 12 – is the “revenue cycle,” which will replace current systems that support administrative tasks such as registration, scheduling, admissions, coding and billing.
The second phase in the Partners eCare launch is the clinical portion of the system, which will go live on March 31, 2016. This includes outpatient and inpatient medical records and physician order entries, as well as dedicated applications for departments ranging from Pharmacy and Radiology to Obstetrics and Oncology.
By supporting the day-to-day work of the hospital’s clinical departments and programs, the clinical implementation of Partners eCare will help patient care teams manage high-risk patients, reduce readmissions, and better coordinate mental health, palliative care and other patient needs. The revenue cycle and clinical systems will tie these functions and information together for the benefit of patients, caregivers and the MGH. MGH staff are encouraged to visit the new Partners eCare Toolkit – offering a collection of valuable resources to guide users through the implementation process – to become more familiar with this Epic-based. Visit http://partnersecare.partners.org and click on the MGH, then the toolkit icon.
In addition to a fact sheet and talking points for managers and supervisors, the toolkit offers a leadership guide, a comprehensive timeline, and a PowerPoint slide that can be added to any presentation to ensure that everyone is kept up-to-date on the latest happenings within Partners eCare. All materials can be downloaded, printed, distributed and displayed within any department.
The Partners eCare site also features a video featuring Sally Mason Boemer, senior vice president of MGH Finance, and O’Neil Britton, chief health information officer for Partners HealthCare and executive director of Partners eCare, who discuss the implementation and how it will impact staff and patients in the coming months.
Please continue to visit this site regularly, as new information will be added. For more information about the toolkit, contact Colleen Marshall at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 617-726-0275.
