“If I could make it rain, I would shower you with love & blessings!”
This was the message from one of the 525 Valentine’s Day cards created at the second annual Valentines for Veterans event Feb. 2, hosted by the MGH Military Veterans Partners (MVP). Supplied with colorful paper, patriotic stickers, heart stamps and messages of love, 76 MGHers handcrafted cards during the arts and crafts evening at Harvard Gardens restaurant.
“There was a tremendous turnout of MGH employees who came together to make valentines and to remind our veterans that they are thought of every day, underscoring our commitment to veterans causes,” says Angela Wynder, RN, BSN, ACM, of MGH Case Management and co-founder and president of the MVP, pictured above-center with, from left, Rose Santosuosso, Case Management; Joe Scanlon, Buildings and Grounds; Blaze Montelo, Police, Security and Outside Services; and Brian Silvia, Buildings and Grounds.
In addition to the 525 valentines created at the event, the MVP also received 150 extra valentines donated from employees, families and community schools. All of the valentines will be distributed to veteran patients at the MGH and at local area VA hospitals.
Annually, the week of February 14 represents a national effort to recognize and thank the men and women of the armed services for their service through activities such as the distribution of valentines.
The MVP welcomes any MGH employee, both veterans and non-veterans. To learn more email MGHVETpartners@partners.org.
