Joshua Roffman, MD

Dr. Roffman is a postdoctoral fellow in the Massachusetts General Hospital Schizophrenia Program, and a Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
After graduating from Amherst College summa cum laude with a degree in neuroscience, Dr. Roffman attended medical school at the University of Maryland. He received additional training at NIH through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program. Following internship in medicine at Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital, Dr. Roffman entered residency training in adult psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital. He pursued specialized training in the interface of psychiatry, neurology, and medicine, serving as chief resident on the inpatient consult-liaison service at MGH. He has garnered several fellowships and awards, including the Lilly Psychiatric Research Fellowship, the Dupont-Warren Fellowship from Harvard Medical School, the American Psychiatric Association GlaxoSmithKline Fellowship, and the American College of Psychiatrists Laughlin Fellowship.
Dr. Roffman’s research focuses on the use of neuroimaging techniques, including functional magnetic resonance imaging, to measure brain activity in schizophrenia. He is interested in combining neuroimaging and genetic methods to help individual patients and clinicians make the best possible treatment decisions. Dr. Roffman also serves on the editorial board of the Harvard Review of Psychiatry and edits the resident and fellows series for Psychiatric Services.
