Nancy J. Keuthen, Ph.D.

Dr. Keuthen is an Associate Professor of Psychology (Psychiatry) at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Co-Founder and Co-Director of the MGH Trichotillomania Clinic & Research Unit, and Chief Psychologist in the MGH Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Clinic & Research Unit. Dr. Keuthen received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from SUNY at Stony Brook. She is internationally recognized as a leading clinician and researcher in trichotillomania. She has been instrumental in establishing awareness of, and improving treatment for this disorder. Dr. Keuthen serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards, including the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Trichotillomania Learning Center and the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation. Her clinical, research, and teaching contributions have been largely focused on the cognitive-behavioral and pharmacological treatment of OCD and OCD-spectrum disorders, including skin picking, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and trichotillomania. She has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters and co-authored the popular book Help for Hairpullers.

Dr. Dougherty is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Clinical Associate at Massachusetts General Hospital, Director of Medical Education at the Massachusetts General Hospital Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Institute, Co-Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Trichotillomania Clinic, Assistant Director of Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatric Neuroimaging Group, Director of the Mood Disorders Section of the Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatric Neuroimaging Group, Visiting Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and serves on the Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatric Neurosurgery Committee. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and is a graduate of the Clinical Investigator Training Program at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Maria Lynn Buttolph, M.D.

Dr. Buttolph has been a staff psychiatrist and member of the Obsessive Compulsive Clinic since 1988. She participated in the original clinical trials that helped to determine effective medications for the treatment of OCD. She has treated a large number of patients with OCD, as well as OCD spectrum disorders including trichotillomania. She has published numerous papers and has written a chapter about OCD and pregnancy. She is an Instructor at the Harvard Medical School and at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Paul Cannistraro, M.D.

Dr. Cannistraro is a staff psychiatrist at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders Clinic, as well as on the adult Inpatient Psychiatry Service. He is Instructor of Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School and Research Fellow in Nuclear Molecular Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Cannistraro attended Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, and completed his residency training in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He came to MGH in 2002 to join the Psychiatric Neuroimaging Research Program as a fellow and to serve as a psychiatrist in the MGH Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Clinic. Dr. Cannistraro has authored multiple articles and reviews in the neuroimaging of anxiety disorders including OCD and Post-Traumatic Stress disorders. He has conducted research in functional magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, and positron emission tomography.
Anne Chosak, Ph.D.

Dr. Chosak is currently a Clinical Assistant of Psychology (Psychiatry) at MGH. Dr. Chosak received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from SUNY at Albany in 2000. She received her post-doctoral training at the OCD Clinic at MGH and was licensed in 2002. Dr. Chosak’s clinical and research background is in anxiety disorders of adulthood. Dr. Chosak’s current clinical and research interests involve the OCD spectrum disorders of adulthood, including OCD, BDD, and trichotillomania. She currently supervises interns for the MGH clinical psychology internship program and is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Brandeis University.
Thilo Deckersbach, Ph.D.

Dr. Deckersbach
received his degree in clinical psychology from the Philipps University (Marburg, Germany) in 2000. He completed his clinical psychology internship in the Cognitive-Behavior Therapy Track at MGH/Harvard Medical School. His research interests are cognitive-behavior therapy for mood and anxiety disorders including OCD spectrum disorders such as trichotillomania and skin picking. In addition, his research investigates the functional neurobiology of emotion-cognition interactions using neuroimaging techniques such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Positron Emission Tomorgraphy (PET). His research has been funded by NIMH, the Tourette Syndrome Association, Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, and the National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression. He currently serves as the Director for Cognitive Neuroscience Research in the Bipolar Disorder Clinic and Research Program.
Jeanne M. Fama, Ph.D.

Dr. Fama is a Clinical Fellow in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Fama completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Harvard University and her clinical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2005. She began researching OCD at the Massachusetts General Hospital OCD Clinic in 1997, where she continues her research and clinical work. Dr. Fama's current research and clinical interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy for OCD and OCD spectrum disorders including Trichotillomania, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Tourette's Disorder.
Susan Sprich, Ph.D.

Dr. Sprich received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She is a Clinical Assistant in Psychology at MGH and an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School. At MGH, she is involved in clinical research in the treatment of ADHD, anxiety, mood and OC-Spectrum disorders. She also teaches interns and residents and does administrative work for the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Program. She has worked with many children and adolescents with Trichotillomania in the past 10 years. She currently sees children and adolescents in her private practice office located in Wellesley, MA.
Evelyn Stewart, M.D.

is a staff psychiatrist at both the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders Clinic and the MGH Pediatric OCD/ Tourette’s Disorder Clinic. She is Instructor of Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School and Director of Research at the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Institute, McLean Hospital. Dr. Stewart attended Dalhousie University School of Medicine, Canada, and completed General Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry subspecialty residency training at the University of Ottawa, Canada. She subsequently completed an OCD research fellowship at McLean Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Stewart has published several studies on the clinical, genetic and treatment aspects of OCD and related disorders and she sits on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation. Her clinical, teaching and research efforts focus on OCD throughout the lifespan and the genetics of OCD.

is the Founder and Director of the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Clinic & Research Unit, Director of the Cognitive-Behavior Therapy Program, and Director of Clinical Services at the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wilhelm received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1995 from the University of Marburg, Germany, and completed her internship and fellowship training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is recognized as a leading researcher in BDD and has published several studies on cognitive functioning, prevalence, and treatment outcome of the disorder. Currently, Dr. Wilhelm is principal investigator of a NIMH-funded study to develop and test a cognitive behavioral treatment for BDD, and a NIMH-funded study examining the effectiveness of cognitive therapy in the treatment of OCD. Dr. Wilhelm has published over 50 articles, reviews, and chapters. Dr. Wilhelm serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards, as well as the Scientific Advisory Board of the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation, the International Obsessive-Compulsive Cognitions Working Group (OCCWG), and the Tourette’s Syndrome Association National Behavioral Science Consortium. Her areas of clinical and research interest include the development, maintenance, and treatment outcome of BDD, OCD, and Tourette’s Disorder.

Research Coordinators
Mariko Jameson graduated from MIT in 2004 with a BS in Brain and Cognitive Science. Since joining the research team at MGH, Mariko has assisted with studies involving OCD, depression, and self-injurious skin picking. She is currently working under Dr. Nancy Keuthen and Dr. Darin Dougherty on clinical and fMRI based studies. Mariko plans to attend graduate school in the fall of 2007.
Intake Coordinators
Barbara Davidson graduated from St. John's University in New York in 1970 with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She later received her RN degree from Pace University in Pleasantville, NY in 1983. Barbara was previously employed by the Belmont School Department prior to her work here at MGH, where she joined as an Intake Coordinator for the OCD, BDD and Trichotillomania clinics in 2003..
Katie Scales currently works as an Intake Coordinator for the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), and Trichotillomania (TTM) Clinics. She joined us in May of 2000.
