Clinical Care

What is the Clinical Program at the Depression Clinical and Research Program?

The clinical program provides care outside of the research setting to people with depressive disorders. The program provides one-time consultations and second opinions to people whose depressions have failed to respond to multiple therapies. The program also provides evaluation and follow-up care for some patients. There are 11 psychopharmacologists and 2 psychologists in the program.

Who are the doctors?

The psychiatrists participating in the program are Maurizio Fava, M.D., Director; Jonathan Alpert, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Director; Andrew A. Nierenberg, M.D., Associate Director; Christina Dording, M.D.; Dan V. Iosifescu, M.D.; David Mischoulon, M.D., Ph.D.; George Papakostas, M.D.; Roy H. Perlis, M.D.; Laura Petrillo, M.D.; John Worthington, M.D.; Albert Yeung, M.D; and John W. Denninger M.D., Ph.D.

The psychologists are Joel Pava, Ph.D.; and Amy Farabaugh, Ph.D.

How do I get an appointment with one of the doctors?

An appointment at the DCRP can be arranged by calling 617-726-8895 for an initial phone screen to determine whether this program is appropriate for you. If so, you will then be matched to a provider by insurance panel and provider availability. The program does not accept all insurances and the individual physicians vary from not accepting any insurance to being able to accept the full spectrum that this program participates in. If you do not have an insurance accepted by the program, you may elect to self-pay if your insurance allows it (Medicare, MassHealth and Free Care do not allow this option). The program does not accept Magellan and United Behavioral Health carve-outs.

Please note: Dr. Jonathan Alpert and Dr. Maurizio Fava are not currently accepting new patients.
