A Family Study of Autism

The primary goal of this research is to develop a better understanding of the causes of autism and related disorders through genetic, immunological, and medical investigation. The study is a collaborative effort between MGH, LADDERS, McLean Hospital and Children’s Hospital.

We are enrolling families with:

We seek participation of the whole family (that is, child with ASD, their parents and any siblings over 6 years of age). We will see families at MGH, the LADDERS clinic, or McLean Hospital. Participation involves interviews, questionnaires, assessments, and a simple blood draw. For children with autism or a related disorder our team will provide the parents with a report of their child’s performance on the standardized assessments administered.

In the long-term, we hope that families will benefit through our increased understanding of the expression of autism and the involvement of genetic factors in this and related disorders.
