Ruth Barr is a United Kingdom trained psychiatrist working as a research fellow at the MGH Schizophrenia Research Program and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Barr obtained her medical degree at Queen’s University, Belfast and received her postgraduate training in psychiatry in Northern Ireland. She worked in research in Belfast on the Northern Ireland First Episode Psychosis Study prior to moving to the United States.
Dr. Barr’s research interests include the effects of nicotine in schizophrenia and understanding the reasons for a high prevalence of smoking in people with this illness. She is currently working with Dr. Eden Evins on studies investigating the effects of nicotine on cognition and reward in schizophrenia. Her other research projects include studying how different clinical groups respond to reward and the effects of nicotine withdrawal on cognition and reward responsivity.
