Octo Barnett.  While there, he was the Director of one of Harvard's first primary care residency programs in collaboration with the Beth Israel and Brigham and Women's Hospitals.  In 1979, he became Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care at the Harvard-affiliated VA Medical Centers in West Roxbury and Brockton, where he established ambulatory training programs in collaboration with the medical residencies of the New England Deaconess and Newton Wellesley Hospitals.  In 1995, he moved to his current position at MGH.  He has two sons, one a pediatrician at MGH and the other a bioethicist and professor at U. California, Berkeley.  He has 3 grandchildren in Somerville, and lives in Cambridge with his wife Susan, a clinical neuropsychologist.
