Driving by Automobile to MGH, Parking at Hospital Garages:

From the North via 1-93 or Route I via the Leverett Connector:

  1. Take 1-93 south to Exit 26 (Storrow Drive/Cambridge) or Route I south over the Tobin Bridge
  2. Follow signs to Storrow Drive (stay left)
  3. Take Storrow Drive west to Government Center exit (left exit)
  4. At end of the ramp, yield to crossing traffic at flashing traffic signal, then proceed straight
  5. At next traffic signal, turn left onto Cambridge Street

From the South via 1-93 via Storrow Drive:

  1. Take 1-93 north to Exit 26 (Storrow Drive)
  2. Follow signs to Storrow Drive (stay right)
  3. Take Storrow Drive west to Government Center exit (left exit)
  4. At end of the ramp, yield to crossing traffic at flashing traffic signal, then proceed straight
  5. At next traffic signal, turn left onto Cambridge Street

From the East via the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) via the Ted Williams Tunnel:

  1. Take I-90 west through the Ted Williams Tunnel)
  2. Follow I-90 west to Exit 24 (I-93 north)
  3. Take I-93 north to Exit 26 (Storrow Drive)
  4. Take Storrow Drive west to Government Center exit (left exit)
  5. At end of ramp, yield to crossing traffic at flashing traffic signal, then proceed straight
  6. At next traffic signal, turn left onto Cambridge Street

From the East via Route 1A via the Sumner Tunnel:

  1. Take Route 1A south through the Sumner Tunnel)
  2. Follow signs to Storrow Drive (stay in right lane)
  3. Take Storrow Drive west to Government Center exit (left exit)
  4. At end of ramp, yield to crossing traffic at flashing traffic signal, then proceed straight
  5. At next traffic signal, turn left onto Cambridge Street

From the West via the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) via Storrow Drive:

  1. Take I-90 east to Exit 18 (Brighton/Cambridge)
  2. Follow signs to Cambridge/Somerville)
  3. Turn right onto Storrow Drive eastbound to Downtown Boston
  4. Take Storrow Drive east to Government Center exit
  5. Follow signs to Downtown/Government Center (Cambridge Street)

From the West via the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) via I-93:

  1. Take I-90 east to Exit 24-B (I-93 North)
  2. Take I-93 north to Exit 26 (Storrow Drive)
  3. Follow signs to Storrow Drive (stay right)
  4. Take Storrow Drive west to Government Center exit (left exit)
  5. At end of ramp, yield to crossing traffic at flashing traffic signal, then proceed straight

The Institute is located a few blocks from the TD Banknorth Garden and North Station at the intersection of Lomasney Way, Causeway, Staniford and Merrimac Streets. Please keep in mind that typical backups on local streets begin about one hour before scheduled games or events at the TD Banknorth Garden. You should check the schedule of events using www.tdbanknorthgarden.com before heading into Boston. Traffic delays are especially common in the following locations:

  • Leverett Circle
  • Storrow Drive East
  • Martha Road
  • Causeway Street

Parking


Parking at MGH: Patients may park all day for a maximum cost of $9.00 at the MGH garages – Parkman, Fruit or Yawkey. It is approximately a 12-15 minute walk to the BHI. To walk to the office, go out to Cambridge Street and turn left. Continue on Cambridge Street until you reach Staniford Street. Take a left onto Staniford Street and proceed to Merrimac Street. Our building is almost directly in front of you at the intersections of Staniford, Causeway and Merrimac Streets. If you prefer not to walk, you may utilize the free hospital Patient Shuttle service.

MGH Parking: To access the Main Entrance, Fruit Street and Yawkey Center Garages:

  1. Take Cambridge Street to first traffic signal (North Grove Street)
  2. Turn left onto North Grove Street
  3. Main Entrance is straight ahead
  4. Follow signs to the left for Fruit Street or Yawkey Center garage entrances

MGH Parking: To access Parkman Street Garage:

  1. Take Cambridge Street to second traffic signal (Blossom Street)
  2. Turn left onto Blossom Street
  3. Take first left onto Parkman Street
  4. Wang ACC is on block on the right
  5. Parkman Street garage is two blocks on the left

Non-MGH Parking: There are several options for parking although they are more expensive than parking at MGH. Rates can typically range from $15.00 (for 2 hours) to $34.00 (for 4+ hours) and are subject to change. Some garages offer early bird rates - call specific garage for more information.

  • Stanhope open lot next door to 151 Merrimac Street with an additional open lot across the street on Lancaster Street.
    Rates are $5.00 for the first half-hour
    $5.00 for each additional half-hour to a maximum of $22.00
    *During the day, you must pay $22.00 up front. The attendant will refund you based on the actual number of hour(s) you were parked.
    ** If you are participating in an evening group and enter either lot after 4:00pm, the maximum charge is $10.00.

  • Underground garage at 101 Merrimac Street.
    To access this garage, proceed to the end of Merrimac Street, turn right onto Causeway Street, and then an immediate right onto Lancaster Street. The garage is at the end on your left.

  • TD Banknorth Garden parking garage (operated by the MBTA).
    This is a 1,150 space parking garage and is located directly underneath the TD Banknorth Garden. It is accessible via Nashua Street. Elevators in the parking garage will bring you directly to the main concourse in North Station. For more information call 617-222-3042.

  • Haymarket/Government Center parking garage.

  • 35 Lomasney Way (Bubble Garage)
    To access this garage from our office, head towards Causeway Street. Cross over Causeway Street onto Lomasney Way, bear right onto Nashua Street, make a u-turn at Red Auerbach Way onto Nashua Street and turn left onto Lomasney Way. The garage will be on your right.

Public Transportation


We are located across the street from the TD Banknorth Garden/North Station and easily accessible by public transportation to the North Station stop. For subway maps and commuter rail fares and schedules, visit the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority website at http://www.mbta.com

From the M.B.T.A. Orange & Green Lines:
Take the Orange or Green Line to the North Station stop, and exit the station heading towards the Causeway Street exit (not via the Commuter Rail Station to Causeway Street). Once outside, turn left onto Causeway Street, walk four blocks and bear left onto Merrimac Street. We are the first building on the left at the intersection of Merrimack, Staniford and Causeway Streets.

From the Red Line:
Take the Red Line to the Park Street stop and switch to the Green Line Eastbound (3 stops) to the North Station stop. Follow the walking directions above.

From the Blue Line:
Take the Blue Line to the Government Center stop and switch to the Green Line Eastbound (2 stops) to the North Station stop. Follow the walking directions above.

From South Station:
Take the Red Line (2 stops) to the Park Street stop and switch to the Green Line Eastbound (3 stops) to the North Station stop. Follow the walking directions above.

From Logan Airport:
Take the Blue Line Inbound (4 stops) to Government Center and switch to the Green Line Eastbound (2 stops) to the North Station stop. Follow the walking directions above.


Free MGH Patient Shuttle Service


Hours of Operation: 8:00am to 4:00pm (there is no weekend or holiday service for this shuttle)

For transportation to the appointment from the MGH lobbies:

  • Patients will request transportation from the staff at the MGH information desks in the Cox, Gray and Yawkey lobbies
  • The staff will call for the Patient Shuttle Bus and the dispatcher will give an approximate time of arrival and the number of the shuttle bus. Please Note: The wait time for the shuttle bus could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1½ hours depending on the demand, traffic, etc
  • The shuttle bus will transport the patient as close as is allowed by the City of Boston to the MGH building where the appointment is scheduled. Please Note: The shuttle drivers are not allowed to escort patients into or out of the building
