For many MGHers, giving back to others is on their list of New Year’s resolutions. This month is the perfect time to make good on that promise and help up to three patients by donating blood at the MGH Blood Donor Center.

The Fellowship Program Team edged out the Yawkey 9 East Team by half a percentage point to win first place in the 2011 Medical Service Challenge hosted by the MGH Blood Donor Center.

MGH Hotline 02.11.11 For those who donate blood at the MGH Blood Donor Center, the true reward is helping to save a life. But on Feb. 9, individuals who donated at the center received an extra benefit -- cupcakes from local bakeries Curly Cakes, South End Buttery and Flour.

MGH Hotline 12.24.10 Santa Claus made an early stop at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) on Dec. 14, passing out stuffed animals and treats on behalf of individuals who donated blood at the Blood Donor Center during December.
12/17/2010: Celebrating the re-signing of Mass General's charter through a lifesaving blood donation
Commemorate the re-signing of the original Mass General charter on February 25, 2011 by donating blood on a Mass General bloodmobile at the Massachusetts State House and McLean Hospital.
10/02/2009: Thanking donors for the gift of life
MGH Hotline 10.02.09 It is estimated that one in 10 patients admitted to the MGH will need a blood transfusion. A patient having a coronary bypass requires an average of one to five units of blood, while a patient receiving a liver transplant may require up to 100 units.
