MGH and BWH compete in blood drive challenge

In honor of National Blood Donor Month, the MGH has taken on some friendly competition with BWH through the annual Employee Blood Drive Challenge. The contest, which began at both hospitals Jan. 1 and will run through Jan. 31, is designed to help combat winter blood shortages by promoting blood donations at both organizations. The hospital with the highest percentage of employee participation will be declared the winning team.

All MGH employees who participate during the competition automatically will be eligible to win a number of fun and exciting raffle prizes offered by the MGH Blood Donor Center. Prizes are provided by the MGH General Store and Flower Shop, the Clubs at Charles River Park, Charlestown Yoga, Healthworks, Cortiva Institute, Crush Boutique, Blackstone's of Beacon Hill and Cambridge Massage Therapy.

The Blood Donor Center is located in the Gray Lobby and is open for whole blood donations Tuesday through Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm; and Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The center is open for platelet donations Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5 pm; and Friday, from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments are encouraged for platelet donations. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (617) 726-8177.
