A Guide to Giving Opportunities
The Sumner Redstone Burn Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital is among the world's premier institutions for burn care. As an innovative leader in wound healing, the Mass General serves as a tertiary care center for all of New England and has treated patients from as far away as Alaska, Granada, Albania and Saudi Arabia.
We have an international reputation for saving lives and finding new treatment techniques. Since our center opened in 1974, we have cared for more than 10,000 patients suffering flame, scald, chemical or electical burns. Unlike other hospitals, the MGH accepts all patients - regardless of their ability to pay. In addition, because of our unique facilities and ability to expertly manage even the most massive wounds, patients with other diseases destroying large areas of skin are now regularly referred to our burn center.
As our number of patients increases, so does our need for new and improved facilities. One of the burn center's greatest needs is for additional and renovated ICU capacity. We are seeking donations to help us meet this major need.
The mission of The Sumner Redstone Burn Center extends beyond survival. Our ultimate goal is to return all patients to the highest possible quality of life -- back to their lives as they were before their burns.
How You Can Help
A burn or rare skin disease may have impaired or threatened your own life or the life of a friend or family member, and you may feel there is nothing you can do to help. In fact, there is a way you can help - an easy and important one.
By making a gift to the Sumner Redstone Burn Center, you can help the Mass General continue to provide the best patient care possible to your loved ones, neighbors and thousands of others. You may make your gift in honor or in memory of a friend or family member. Or, like many Mass General patients and their families, you may make your gift in recognition of the excellent care given by a physician, nurse or other caregiver.
We welcome and appreciate gifts of any size. Since our institution was founded in 1811, the Mass General has relied heavily on the generosity of friends and supporters. Today, when reimbursements to specialists and academic centers have decreased and the pressure for efficiency and cost-effectiveness are at an all-time high; we need your help more than ever.
With Your Help, We Can...
The need for philanthropy has never been greater. Together with the support of other Mass General friends, your tax-deductible donation will go a long way toward critical facility improvements that will enable us to provide better care to our patients.
