Michael Birrer, MD, PhD, director of Massaschusetts General Hospital Cancer Center gynecologic medical oncology, has been elected as the new co-chair of the Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee (GCSC).

The GCSC, formed by the director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), determines all phase III trials for gynecologic cancers in the United States and elsewhere. Birrer previously served as chief of the Molecular Mechanisms Section, Cell and Cancer Biology Branch, in the NCI Center for Cancer Research and as the official representative from the NCI Center for Cancer Research to the GCSC.
