Jennifer Temel, MD Receives Palliative Care Grant Award

The grant, part of a $1.5 million initiative, was co-sponsored by the National Palliative Care Research Center (NPCRC) and aimed for studies on reducing suffering for seriously ill patients and their family caregivers. Temel, who is an lung cancer specialist, will conduct a study which will encourage oncology clinicians to discuss and document their patient's goals of care and end-of-life care wishes. The intervention will involve an electronic reminder, sent via e-mail, about their patient's disease, prognosis and resources to assist the clinician with the often difficult conversations they must have with seriously ill patients.
