What influenced your decision to work in healthcare? The unique opportunity of helping others during times of illness is invaluable. This is particularly special in my field, psycho-oncology, where even the simplest intervention can bring comfort and make a difference for a patient.
What drew you to Mass General?
I came to Mass General for my training in psychosomatic medicine. When I first visited the hospital, I was impressed by the commitment to patient care and to high-quality medicine. I was also attracted to the dedication the faculty has to imparting this sense of commitment to their trainees.
What is your favorite part of working here?
It would be very difficult to name ONE single aspect. I'll highlight the charisma of people I have the blessing to work with; the chance of being in a place where medicine progresses every day, and in every corner there is an expert and an opportunity to learn; and the strong institutional support I have received to develop myself as a clinician and an investigator.
Do you have any advice for those dealing with cancer or their caregivers/loved ones?
For those battling cancer, I would tell them: take advantage of all the services a place such as Mass General offers, don’t hesitate to bring any concern to their providers, as quality of life is one of our top priorities. And to those caring for them, be sensitive listeners to their loved ones' needs. Being supportive is not an easy task, and takes effort to be attuned and balanced.
