David Apostol, Senior Project Specialist
Senior Project Specialist
Time at the Cancer Center: 3 years
What is your role at the Cancer Center? My main job function is data management and reporting. That’s a fancy way of saying that I'm in charge of creating a myriad of metrics (financial, volume, statistics, etc.) encompassing all departments and satellites of the Cancer Center. My secondary function is process and workflow improvement, which often means the creation of specialized databases to streamline various operations. For instance, I developed one online system that allows the Call Center to access all the information they need to route inquiries, which replaced a cumbersome paper directory. I also work on project management in general, spearheading specific Cancer Center initiatives as they arise.
What influenced your decision to work in healthcare? One of my main goals was finding a synergy between my personal growth and the betterment of my fellow man. However indirectly, the fact that we're saving people's lives on a daily basis is fulfilling that purpose.
What drew you to the Cancer Center? The Cancer Center is a world leader in research and cutting-edge care that brings together the brightest minds from their respective fields. I'm very proud and honored to be associated with such an outstanding institution.
What is your favorite part of working here? The people here are the main reason that makes me want to come to work every day. There is definitely a team-centric mindset which facilitates collaboration and brings out the best in each and every one of us on a daily basis.
