Services
The care we provide is highly collaborative, involving
a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists. Newly diagnosed
patients are seen by a surgical, radiation, and medical oncologist
in a single visit, which is usually scheduled within one week.
A multidisciplinary team develops each patient’s treatment
plan, which includes radiology and pathology review, as well
as eligibility for clinical research trials.
Before the patient leaves the hospital they know what their
treatment will entail and has discussed it in detail with
their physician.
Our services include:
- Screening and diagnostic mammography using the most recent
innovations in breast imaging
- Diagnosis using the least invasive methods, such as fine
needle aspiration or core-needle biopsy, whenever possible
- Multidisciplinary treatment based on the most effective
advances in surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and
hormonal therapy, including breast-conserving/skin-sparing
surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, and partial breast
radiation
- Immediate breast reconstruction
- Access to and close collaboration with reproductive
medicine (fertility) services
- Access to promising new investigational therapies through
a large number of clinical research trials
- Long-term, follow-up care, including collaboration with
community physicians and hospitals.
Advanced
Treatments
We offer patients access to the latest, most promising
therapies, and have been a pioneer in developing and/or offering
new approaches that improve care.
- Our surgical oncologists were among the first to offer
sentinel lymph node mapping as a less-invasive alternative
to axillary lymph node dissection.
- Our radiation oncologists have led the way in partial
breast radiation, a new approach that significantly reduces
the length of radiation treatment while exposing patients
to less potentially harmful radiation.
- We also conduct an active program of clinical
research aimed at finding new and better ways
to diagnose and treat breast cancer. See new development
of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis.
- Genetic counseling and assessment of a woman's risk of
breast cancer with the member of Center
for Cancer Genetics Risk Assessment
Support
& Coping
Because breast cancer can impact a patient’s
quality of life and place stress on the entire family, we
believe that high-quality care should encompass the whole
patient by addressing physical, psychological, and spiritual
needs.
