Additional Resources
  • Physical and occupational therapy
The physical or occupational therapist will work with your child to help gain function and strength, and to help him/her learn how to walk with assistive devices if necessary. The physical or occupational therapist works closely with the treatment team and follows your child's progress throughout the time of treatment.
  • Child Life Specialists
The child life specialists provide recreational activities and play therapy to help your child understand and cope with medical procedures, illness and hospitalization.
  • Pediatric Psychiatric Consultation Services
Paula Rauch directs the Pediatric Consultation-Liaison Service. She is assisted by an energetic group of child psychiatrists including Nina Muriel, Annah Abrams and Lawrence Selter. These psychiatrists are skilled in helping young people meet the developmental challenges of illness. Among the many worthwhile initiatives of the team, there is the innovative Parenting At a Challenging Time or PACT program, begun by Paula Rauch. This Cancer Center Program provides parent guidance consultations to adults with cancer who seek assistance in helping their children cope with parental illness.
  • Nutrition Services
The food that your child eats can play a major role in his/her cancer treatment. As they receive their specific therapy, it is possible that he/she will encounter side affects that may alter their normal eating habits. The dietitian can help you choose food that will nourish your child and keep him/her strong before, during and after treatment.
  • Social Work
Oncology Social Workers are licensed mental health professionals who provide support for the many issues that may affect patients and their families during cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. They accomplish this through a unique combination of counseling and direct connection with a network of hospital and community resources.
  • Chaplaincy
Each chaplain serves as a member of the health care team, working closely with others who care for your child and you. Spiritual care is available to people of all faiths and to those of no religious affiliation. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day for pastoral emergencies.
  • The HOPES Program-Helping Our Patients and families through Education and Support
Resources developed by or affiliated with the HOPES program include educational and wellness workshops, a network for patients and families, support groups, and complementary/alternative therapies.
  • Cancer Resource Room
Here you'll find information on cancer care and treatment, wellness and hospital and community resources. The Resource Room offers pamphlets, books, videos and computers in a comfortable setting.
  • MGH International Patient Center
Facilitates care of patients requiring interpreter services.
  • Parent and Family Support
