Illuminations Program Updates
Tuesday March 9, 2010 marks the opening reception for the new Illuminations February-May 2010 exhibit. The reception, which is open to the public and will take place on the 10th floor of the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care from 5:30-7:00 pm, celebrates the 15 participating artists of the exhibit. Since it's inception in 2001, Illuminations strives to create a visually healing environment for patients and staff alike through artwork that is inspirational, as well as interesting.
Arni Cheatham knows firsthand the positive impact Illuminations can have on patients during their time spent in the Cancer Center. Arni is not only a talented jazz saxophonist, but he is an amazing photographer, with work in the current Illuminations exhibit. He is a patient of the Mass General Cancer Center as well. In a recent blog posting titled, "Paying it Forward," Arni explains the impact of the Illuminations exhibit from both the patient and participating artist perspective. To learn more about Arni's experience please visit his blog entry.
HOPES pilot program The HOPES Program is pleased to announce the creation of pilot display of artwork and writing from patients as well as family members and caregivers of the Mass General Cancer Center. The HOPES Program Patient and Family Artwork/Writing Exhibit Pilot is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to share their experiences of living with cancer through creative self expression, while also creating a visually stimulating environment of support for patients and their loved ones. Artwork or writings included in the display tell individual stories, provide inspiration and encourage, as well as shed light on the shared experiences of having cancer. We invited you to please spend some time with the current display of artwork and writing located on the north corridor of Yawkey 9.
For more information please contact Stefanie Ryan or visit the HOPES Program
