Esophagus: Front View
This is the front view of the esophagus that demonstrates how any change in the esophagus can affect other areas of the chest cavity.

  • The chest contains the esophagus, trachea, bronchi, and heart.
  • The esophagus starts in the throat at the epiglottis. It goes down through the chest, across the diaphram, and ends where it joins the stomach.
  • The esophagus and the trachea are close together in the upper part of the chest.
  • After the trachea divides into the right and left bronchi, the esophagus is no longer near the breathing system.
  • The diaphram separates the chest from the abdomen.
