Dr. Dizon is a specialist in medical gynecologic oncology, blogger for ASCO Connection, and past chair of ASCO's Integrated Media and Technology Committee.
BiographyI am originally from the South Pacific Island of Guam but have made my home in the Northeast. I did my undergraduate and medical school degrees at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry followed by residency in Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. After one year as a clinician/educator for the Primary Care Program in the Yale University School of Medicine I pursued fellowship training in Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Following fellowship I joined the Developmental Therapeutics service at MSKCC where I was a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Disease Management Team. Following the birth of my first daughter, Isabelle, I relocated to Whitman, MA and became the Director of Medical Oncology for the Program in Women's Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. While at WIHRI I helped begin and was co-director of Rhode Island's first Center for Sexuality, Intimacy, and Fertility for women with a history of cancer. I remain committed to clinical research in novel treatments for women with gynecologic cancer and in cancer survivorship, particularly as it relates to sexual health.
ResearchMy clinical focus is on the treatment of women's cancers. I conduct national and investigator-initiated clinical trials of novel therapeutics including chemotherapy and immunotherapy with an emphasis on recurrent breast or ovarian cancers. I am also interested in quality of life and decision-making in women with breast and gynecologic malignancies; survivorship, and sexual health issues in female cancer survivors.
