Illuminations Program

Illuminations is a rotating art exhibit housed in the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, designed to enhance our environment of care.

Illuminations is a rotating art exhibit housed in the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and many of its affi liate locations. The exhibit is intended to offer enlightenment and encouragement to patients, families, staff and friends of the Cancer Center as they receive care, provide care, or accompany loved ones.


Illuminations has transformed generic waiting areas into a virtual art gallery of revolving exhibits that feature works by numerous regional and national artists. The work of several artists, representing various media, is on display for four months at a time.

HOW TO PARTICIPATEELIGIBILITY:

• Open to all artists working in all styles.
ENTRY• Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
• Submit work as digital images (jpgs) saved in electronic format (CD, fl ash drive etc.)
• Along with electronic portfolio, please include a list with the following information:

• First and last name
• Mailing address, city, state, zip
• Telephone numbers (daytime and evening)
• Email address
• Website address
• List of artwork that includes title, medium, and dimension information for each piece (Please number each piece so that numbers correspond to numbered jpgs.)

• Application materials will be returned to you, upon review of your application.

RESTRICTIONS:• Works can be no larger than 48” in height.
• In regards to imagery and content, please see “Guidelines for Artwork in the Hospital Environment”

ACCEPTED WORK:• Generally 10-20 pieces of work per artist are exhibited.
• Only pieces that have been submitted for review will be considered for display.
• Every effort is made to hang as much of an artist’s work as possible, however, all submitted pieces may not be used based on patient/staff reactions or space constraints.

DELIVERY AND RETRIEVAL:• Selected artists are fully responsible for the delivery of their work to and from the Cancer Center.
• The Cancer Center does not have storage capacity to save boxes or materials that artwork is delivered in, nor will it be responsible for packing and shipping artwork to an artist.

INSURANCE:• The artist is fully responsible for any insurance of his/ her work during transit as well as exhibition.
• While utmost care is given to all entries, the Cancer Center does not assume liability for damage or loss before, during or after the exhibition.

AGREEMENT:• Submission of electronic portfolio and/or works to this exhibition constitutes agreement on the part of the artist to these terms and conditions.
