Advances in Surgical Oncology 2016

The Division of Surgical Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital presents Advances in Surgical Oncology 2016 . This 2-day course will present recent advances in managing patients with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, pancreatic and liver tumors, GIST and sarcomas.

Agenda

This 2-day update of surgical oncology is ideal for surgeons managing patients with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, pancreatic and liver tumors, GIST and sarcomas. Preoperative evaluation with emphasis on multidisciplinary decision making as well as cutting edge surgical techniques will be reviewed.

The course format avoids long lectures, and instead places a premium on short "quick hitter" discussions by experts on focused topics in patient care issues of interest to all surgeons practicing surgical oncology.

Topics include:

  • Nipple sparing mastectomy
  • Minimally invasive parathyroid surgery
  • Recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring
  • Sentinel node biopsy
  • Laparoscopic liver resection
  • Total meso-rectal excision
  • Genetic counseling for surgeons
  • Cystic pancreatic neoplasms
  • HIPEC
  • Immunotherapy breakthroughs in melanoma
  • Extent of lymphadenectomy for gastric cancer
  • When to obtain biopsies for intra-abdominal masses

Multidisciplinary tumor board discussions will review cases, discuss treatment, and pearls focusing on a variety of surgical management scenarios. Audience participation is a key part of these discussions.

Short video clips with experts showing "how I do it" will complement the talks.
