Q: What is your name?

Howard Weinstein.

Q: Where are you from?

Newton, MA.

Q: What is your role at Massachusetts General Hospital?

Chief of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.

Q: Why did you choose to run the marathon for MassGeneral Hospital for Children?

I run the marathon each year to raise funds for our childhood cancer program and to honor one of my patients.

Q: What kind of experience do you have as a runner?

Training for the marathon is always difficult and time consuming, but well worth the commitment. The overall marathon experience is a great way to connect with and support our patients and their families in a non-medical environment.

Q: What inspires you as a runner?

I am inspired by my patients, their families and the dedication of my fellow runners.

Q: What has been your most memorable moment preparing for the marathon?

Completing a 17-mile training run and still able to walk after the run!

Q: What have you learned about your patient partner and what makes her special?

My patient partner is so upbeat and full of energy, despite the rigors of her chemotherapy. She never fails to amaze me with her questions and sophisticated understanding of her leukemia. She is very inspirational.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about marathon day?

I am looking forward to the patient partner medal ceremony at the pasta dinner, and seeing my family and my patient partner and her family at Mile 20.
