A pitcher’s promise

STRETCHING FOR SMILES: Breslow and Taliyah Sweeting, 7

Red Sox pitcher Craig Breslow walked off the baseball field and into patient rooms at MassGeneral Hospital for Children Sept. 15. A member of the 2013 World Series Champion team, Breslow spent the afternoon in the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Clinic on Yawkey 8 handing out Red Sox souvenirs, talking with kids and their parents and signing autographs. He and his wife, Kelly Breslow, also participated in a yoga class with patients.

“It was an incredible experience to visit such a state-of-the-art-facility as MGH, speak with Dr. Howard Weinstein (chief of  Pediatric Hematology-Oncology) and of course meet the children receiving treatment,” said Breslow. “My wife and I are so humbled to have met such inspiring and strong kids.”

Breslow is the founder of the Strike 3 Foundation, a charitable agency that increases awareness, mobilizes support and raises funds for childhood cancer research. His visit was part of a series of events celebrating National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
