Bereavement

Cancer Center Bereavement Service maintains a connection with family members, after the death of their loved ones. We are here for support and to help you find resources in your local community.Grief is a deeply personal experience that is unique to each individual. Even when family and friends are there for support, grief can feel very lonely. Some people find talking helpful, while others find greater comfort in moments of quiet reflection. That is why the Cancer Center Bereavement Service was started… to maintain a connection with family members, after the death of their loved ones. We are here for support and to help you find resources in your local community.

Asking for Help
Many people ask, “When is it time to ask for help?” If you have been thinking about getting help, then it is probably the right time. That is really the only reason you need.

Some people find support groups very helpful. Counseling is another way of finding comfort. Some people want to talk things over with a family member or friend. Others would rather look for information by reading books about grief. The way that you express your grief is deeply personal. What you may find helpful or comforting is also personal.

There are a variety of support services available, but what is most important is finding out what feels right for you. When you are ready, you can call the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center Bereavement Service 1-877-726-5130 or if you need assistance in finding information in books or other material, please contact, Cancer Resource Room at 617- 724-1822 or go to Massachusetts General Hospital Palliative Care Service which offers additional resources.
