Gifts, Large and Small, Support
the HOPES Program
In
many ways, Mikey Freeman is just like
any other 8-year old. He loves playing
basketball, soccer, and baseball, and
riding his bike with his friends.
But for his eighth birthday party, Mikey
did something unusual for a child his
age. He asked his friends to donate to
the HOPES Program rather than give him
presents.
Mikey wanted his effort to help people
like his uncle, who is being treated
at the Cancer Center and has been involved
on an ongoing basis with the HOPES Program.
With his mother’s approval, Mikey’s
invitations included a note asking his
friends to donate money to the HOPES
Program in lieu of a gift. The day of
his party, Mikey’s guests showed
up with checks totaling more than $200,
all of which was donated to the HOPES
Program.
“The HOPES Program thanks Mikey
for his thoughtfulness, as we rely on
gifts, large and small, from individuals
like Mikey, as well as donations and
grants from organizations, including
a generous grant from the Friends of
the MGH Cancer Center,” says
Director Katie Binda, MSW, LICSW.
All
gifts are welcome and appreciated. For
