Our approach:

The Living TOBACCO-FREE Program works with MGH Community HealthCare Centers' staff to help ensure all patients are screened for tobacco use and referred to services that will help them quit using all forms of tobacco.  For their patients who use tobacco, providers can prescribe a variety of nicotine replacement therapies and other medicines and refer them to an MGH Community HealthCare Center smoking cessation group.  Providers can also refer patients to Quitworks, a free service offered through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  Quitworks provides enrollees with free telephone coaching and offers a free two-week supply of nicotine patches.

In the community, the program supports local organizations and agencies that implement policy changes that create smoke-free environments and further restrict youth access not just to cigarettes, but to newer types of tobacco products as well. We look forward to providing direct cessation services and education in various community forums.

Any patient or community member who is interested in quitting smoking or using tobacco also can call the Massachusetts Smokers’ Helpline directly.  Callers can learn about medicines, get their questions about quitting answered, and receive free one-on-one, over-the-phone coaching.  The Helpline phone number is:  1- 800- QUIT-NOW or 1-800-784-8669.  For Helpline coaching and information in Spanish, call 1-800-8-Déjalo (1-800-833-5256); for other languages call 1-800-784-8669 to connect with an interpreter service; for Deaf/TTY call1-800-833-1477.
