Staffed with Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and other clinicians, SBHCs provide primary care and services in mental health, nutrition, health education, substance abuse prevention, violence prevention, and assistance with health insurance enrollment to all students at Chelsea High School and Revere High School.  Our Stay in Shape Program is operated at both these high schools.

2015 Outcomes in Chelsea;

  • There were 341 active participants, and 2031 visits to the center.
  • In collaboration with Chelsea High School outreach worker, the program conducted case management for all pregnant and parenting students; support groups for teen parents.
  • The Program Health Educator attended Teen Parent Lobby Day, and testified on a bill supporting pregnant and parenting students. She was a member of ROCA’s Parent Advisory Board and delivered a presentation at SBHA Convention.
  • Coordinated internships at MGH Chelsea for CHS students in the Health and Life Sciences track; Recruited and helped with hiring process of summer interns at MGH Chelsea through the Jobs4Youth program; Hosted HMS pediatric residents in their Adolescent Clinical Rotation for SHC visits.
  • In collaboration with MGH Chelsea outreach worker, the program worked with CHS Bridge team. The addition of Spanish-speaking social worker provided behavioral health through SHC.
  • Chelsea Public Schools continued a grant through MA DESE to improve adolescent sexual health through sexual health education, sexual health services, safe and supportive environment, and policies supporting these areas. A certified family planning counselor was added to the staff at SHC.
