Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles, CA) -- Phillip H. Koeffler, MD, Mark Goodson Chair in Oncology Research and Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. Drs. Koeffler and Thadhani are collaborating to test the effect of activated vitamin D on antimicrobial proteins in the blood of hemodialysis patients.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, (Boston, MA) -- Peter Kang, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Division of Cardiology. Drs. Kang and Thadhani are collaborating to test the effect of activated vitamin D on animal models of left ventricular hypertrophy and congestive heart failure (CHF).
Project Viva. Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of maternal intake of vitamin D during pregnancy to risk of wheezing illnesses and eczema in early childhood. The work is part of a larger study called Project Viva, an ongoing “pre-birth” cohort of >2,000 mother-child pairs in the Boston area. The cohort PI is Matthew Gillman, MD, SM.
Growing Up Today Study. Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of dietary intake of vitamin D to risk of asthma in adolescence. This work is part of a larger study called the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS), an ongoing prospective cohort study of >16,000 adolescents across the USA. The cohort PI is Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH.
Nurses’ Health Study and Health Professionals’ Follow-up Study. Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of dietary intake of vitamin D to risk of adult-onset asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in men and women. This work is part of two larger studies: 1) the Nurses’ Health Study, an ongoing prospective cohort study of >120,000 women across the USA; and 2) the Health Professionals’ Follow-up Study, an ongoing prospective cohort study of >50,000 men across the USA. The cohort PIs are Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH and Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, respectively.
