How You Can Help
You can help the Center for Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, an integral part of the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, advance medical care and train the next generation of caregivers by making a tax-deductible donation today.
The center relies on the generosity of donors to support its research, quality and safety, education and global health initiatives. This work is vitally important to the thousands of patients who walk through Mass General’s doors every day, as well as patients around the world.
Massachusetts General Hospital main entrance
Physicians at Mass General conducted the first public demonstration of surgical anesthesia in 1846, and we have been leaders in research ever since. From the laboratory to the clinic, the center is committed to advancing innovative technologies and developing new treatments. Recent advances include “mapping” the unconscious brain under anesthesia, understanding the impact of anesthesia on patients with sleep apnea and measuring cognitive impairment following anesthesia in older patients. Your help can fund break-through innovations, provide start-up grants for clinical studies and support young investigators who are the future of anesthesia research.
Quality and Safety
We are dedicated to providing the best evidence-based care possible, and we continuously strive for improvement. For example, we are working with our colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create and test new models of care redesign to optimize the availability and efficiency of operating rooms in order to improve patient safety and satisfaction. In addition, our department’s Quality Assurance Committee reviews all patient safety events, which then lead to process improvement efforts throughout the hospital. Your support can help ensure that young residents, fellows and faculty have the opportunity to learn and partake in quality research and contribute to national standards of care.
We are committed to training the next generation of leaders in the field of anesthesia, critical care and pain medicine. Your support helps fund fellowships and training programs for our residents, fellows and attending physicians. Philanthropy also enables faculty to participate in conferences, courses and educational retreats, and sponsors annual lectureships and grand rounds presentations so all faculty and staff can stay on the forefront of our rapidly evolving field.
As part of Mass General’s commitment to serving communities in need, the department provides on-the-ground disaster relief and advanced training for developing countries around the globe. Donations enable our faculty, fellows and residents to help underserved populations for up to a month at a time in countries such as Haiti, Uganda, South Africa and Afghanistan.
There are many ways to support the center’s work, whether by making an outright gift, donating in honor of a loved one, leveraging matching gifts from your employer or making a planned bequest.
