Breastfeeding is strongly encouraged and supported at MassGeneral Hospital for Children, and currently eighty-two percent of babies are breastfed at the time of discharge from the Mother and Child Center. All of our lactation consultants are certified and are registered nurses. Lactation support is available to inpatients seven days a week, including holidays. A daily breastfeeding class is also offered on the Newborn Family unit to our inpatient mothers.
Outpatient Services include:
- Prenatal Breastfeeding classes four times a month
- Me and My baby, a new moms support group, facilitated by an obstetrics nurse, meets every Tuesday and includes time with a lactation consultant
