Ambulatory Care Rotation-2: Career Development Block
ACR-2 is a Career Development Block in which the junior resident designs the rotation to meet specific career goals he or she has identified. You should use this time to create an experience that will help better define your career goals if you are still uncertain of what you want to do, or further develop your skills in the area you have chosen for your future practice.
Shannon Scott-Vernaglia oversees the rotation, but each resident is responsible for organizing his or her own experience. At the end of the rotation, you are required to provide a written summary of your experience for your file and portfolio. Please note that since all of these experiences require prior planning, you should discuss your plans for the rotation with Shannon at least 4 weeks in advance.
Examples of types of rotations:
- Advocacy
- Community pediatrics
- Clinical research
- Basic laboratory research
- Primary care exploration
- Subspecialty exploration
If you are interested in doing research during the block, please speak with Shannon at least a few months in advance to begin defining areas of interest, faculty mentors, and goals for the rotation. While most residents will not have a clearly defined research question prior to the rotation, it is NOT acceptable to start the rotation wanting to do research without having spoken with a faculty mentor about a project ahead of time.
ALL ACR2 residents must attend ACR conferences on Tuesday morning. Contact Jeanne Van Cleave if you have questions about the conference scheduling.
