Cardiology Elective Information

Course Director: Dr. Michael de Moor

Goals and Objectives of Rotation:

  1. One month rotations encouraged ! (2 weeks is too short)
  2. Assist in inpatient consultations and evaluations and management.
  3. Assist in post-operative management of cardiac surgery patients
  4. Assist/observe cardiac catheterizations, observe cardiac surgery
  5. H&E clinic patients: Recognize Congenital Heart Disease and Arrhythmia’s
  6. Evaluation of Innocent murmurs, Chest Pain and Syncope/dizziness
  7. Evaluation and Management of Hyperlipidemias
  8. Interpret daily (+ 20) EKG’s with supervision
  9. READ (400 pages) "Pediatric Cardiology for Practitioners" by Myung C. Park
  10. LISTEN to tape or CD: "Heart Sounds and Murmurs"
At the end of a one month rotation the resident should be able to independently evaluate patients with innocent murmurs, chest pain, syncope and hyperlipidemia prevention. He/she should recognize and have a basic understanding of Congenital Heart Disease and Arrhythmia’s
